INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study 

A fundamental and essential element of any human effort, transportation has a significant impact on the interactions that occur when people with similar interests coexist.

It serves as the foundation for interaction, employment, leisure, and housing choice, which is crucial to the survival of urban communities (Oluwaseyi, Edward, Eyinda, & Okoko, 2014).

When a country decides to develop its transport system on a large scale, it must make sure that it not only makes it easier for its citizens to get to their homes and places of employment, but also that it does so in a way that is safe and healthy, reducing or eliminating the risk of death and permanent disability (Lukasik and Szymanek, 2012).

Nigeria has worked to create a transport infrastructure that satisfies international standards. Numerous motorised modes of transportation, including as taxis, minibuses, and buses, have been used.

Rapid industrialisation, poorly planned urbanisation, crumbling road networks and infrastructure, population growth despite a steadily declining number of vehicles causing congestion, long waits and travel times at bus stops and insufficient security were all issues plaguing these traditional public transportation options.

Since many commuters typically struggle to get to and from their official or home quarters, this necessity increased demand for motorcycles (Olubomehin, 2012). The commercial motorbike became a well-established form of transportation in Nigeria as a result of the conventional modes of transportation failing to move people from one place to another.

Because they are a part of Nigerian communities, motorbike riders are easier to reach (Olubomehin, 2012). Commercial motorcycles are thought to be the primary mode of transportation in 70% of Nigerian cities that are urban or semi-urban (Oluwaseyiet al, 2014).
