EFFECT OF DUMPING HUMAN WASTE

Chapter one

INTRODUCTION

1.1 General Background of the Subject Matter

The state of the environment has an impact on people in our society since it is one of the most important factors of optimal health or well-being. It comprises all living and non-living entities with which man interacts and which can affect his health.

The ability to regulate many aspects of his environment has distinguished man from other species throughout recorded history. People have struggled to manage their natural surroundings in order to better their health and well-being.

The sanitary code of the masses in the Old Testament, which is as valid today as it was when written, guided people’s efforts, but considerable environmental control progress was not made until the “sanitary awakening” that followed the industrial and scientific revolutions.

Customs, food, air, water, soil, chemical and industrial waste, microorganisms, and other living creatures are all examples of environmental elements that might have an impact on human health.

The quality of one’s existence and the potentials bestowed upon him by his parents are heavily influenced by one’s surroundings. If these variables are not effectively manipulated or regulated, they can pose environmental risks.

Modern technologies and rising national wealth have significantly improved man’s quality of life. However, when not properly disposed of, they introduce additional environmental concerns or issues into industry.

So, we plan to investigate manufacturing and its interaction with the environment. The causes and repercussions of poor human waste disposal in the environment, namely at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu.

1.2 Problems Associated with the Subject Matter

Human waste is seen around the environment of the Institute of Management and Technology. Enugu is always an unpleasant sight for a first-time visitor to the school, particularly behind the hostels.

A messy environment reflects poorly on any institution, regardless of how well it performs academically. No one wants to live in a dirty environment and feel comfortable. Improper human waste disposal has major consequences for both the environment and the people who live in it.

The issues it causes for the environment and the people who live in it are:

1. POLUTION OF WATER:

Water is independent in our daily operations; nevertheless, when this water contains impure substances that inhibit the growth of plants, animals, and manufacturing, it is termed to be contaminated. Water pollution is a severe environmental hazard.

The polluted crater harbours hazardous waterborne infections such as guinea worm, typhoid, and ameobiasis. All of this sterilises water till it is safe to drink and kills aquatic species utilised in manufacturing as food, such as fish.

Are these complaints fair, or are they simply a breakdown of the baking business because it is profitable in an economic downturn?

2. Pollution of land (soil)

Improperly disposed of human waste pollutes and degrades the ecosystem, particularly during rainy seasons. The rain will make the area dumpy and difficult to move on smoothly.

Human excrement emits an awful, pungent stench and is unsightly, attracting insects that may pick up disease-causing bacteria and carry them into human meals.

Old scrabs occupy ground area and may contaminate the air if metal fragments include lead. Also, soil recomposition is not biodegradable. It also inhibits the growth of plants when they are deposited in landfills.
