ABSTRACT
Motivation has long been a major challenge for business organisations around the world, particularly in manufacturing industries where high levels of productivity affect or play a significant role in determining an organization’s profitability, growth, development, stability, and long-term success.

As a result, in order to succeed in keeping a competitive edge over its competitors while also avoiding a gradual drop in staff productivity levels, an organisation must guarantee that its personnel is appropriately motivated.

The primary goal of this research is to investigate the impact of employee motivation on organisational productivity. This study used a descriptive and causal research methodology, as well as the survey method, to investigate the effects of motivation on organisational production levels.

The total population of the study was 475, hence the sample size determined was 217. The primary data collection instrument was a well-structured self-administered questionnaire, which was distributed to 217 respondents, of whom 185 were retrieved and appropriately filled out.

The reliability of the research instrument was calculated, and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.868. The data were analysed using multiple regression analysis. The hypotheses investigated revealed a substantial link between employee motivation and organisational productivity.

The findings also found that 35.8% of the variability in productivity may be explained by employee motivation in the organisation studied in this research. The findings also showed that extrinsic factors were thought to have a greater impact on organisational productivity than inner elements.

The study showed that, while both intrinsic and extrinsic factors are significant predictors of productivity, respondents in the organisation under study appear to value extrinsic ones more.

Furthermore, this study indicated that organisational management take suitable efforts to identify the variables that motivate their employees and seek strategies to ensure that they are sufficiently motivated in order to increase their performance and productivity levels.

Finally, the report recommended that future studies focus on businesses other than pharmaceutical manufacture.

Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Most enterprises, organisations, and managers encounter a variety of obstacles. One such problem is in management, which refers to the effective and efficient use of resources to meet an organization’s goals and objectives.

Some of these managerial obstacles are obvious in employee-related issues such as reimbursement, recruitment, performance management, training and career development, health and safety, benefits, motivation, and administration, among others.

Human resources are the most important determinants of production, and human capital is what distinguishes one organisation from another (Maimuna & Rashad, 2013).

To survive and remain relevant and competitive, organisations must be able to attract and retain efficient and productive people in order to increase production (Sunia, 2014). However, this study concentrates on the topic of motivation and the consequences of employee motivation on organisational production.

Hellriegel (1996) defined motivation as any influence that shapes, directs, or sustains people’s goal-directed behaviours. It refers to the driving force that motivates a person to perform in a certain way.

It is an inner drive that causes a person to behave in a specific way. Most organisations want to increase productivity, hence motivational elements play an important part in increasing employee job satisfaction. This will help to improve an organization’s productivity levels.
