The study is a critical analysis of the impact of traditional media and communication on rural development in Nigeria. Regardless of the different current modes of communication, such as radio, internet, television, periodicals, etc.

Rural communication remains the acme of rural development. The traditional modes of communication include the following: Ekwe, Ikoro, smoke signals, open markets, age groupings, palm fronds, oja the town crier, and so forth.

However, both primary and secondary data will be used to collect information for the study. The secondary data will be gathered through a review of documented materials, whereas the primary data will be obtained through a questionnaire and an oral interview, and will be distributed to rural residents with the assistance of the researcher, who will assist the uneducated in filling out the boxes by explaining the questions to them.

A total of 382 questionnaires will be handed exactly to inhabitants of the Iwollo Oghe village. The collected data will be compiled and analysed as percentages.

The three hypotheses will be investigated using the chi-squared method, accordingly.

The study’s findings will demonstrate, among other things, that traditional modes of communication may be used to promote effective rural development.
