IMPACT OF INTERNET TECHNOLOGY ON JOURNALISM PRACTICE IN NIGERIA
5:3 Proposal for Further Study
Journalism is the creation and dissemination of reports about recent occurrences. The term journalism refers to the occupation (professional or not), means of acquiring information, and literary styles. Print, television, radio, the Internet, and newsreels have all been used as journalistic mediums in the past.
The concept of the right role for journalists varies by country. In some countries, the news media is controlled by the government and is not completely autonomous.
In others, the news media is independent of the government, yet profit motives conflict with constitutional guarantees of press freedom.
Citizens can successfully participate in politics by having access to freely available information acquired by independent and competing journalism companies with transparent editorial standards. In the United States, the First Amendment’s freedom of the press clause protects journalism.
