INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background for the Study
Motivation simply refers to the action of inspiring employees. To give their finest performance in their profession. If employees are provided the required incentive, there will be considerable achievement and advancement in the area of employee performance, which is defined as the act of carrying out
executing, achieving, and accomplishing a task performed by an employee. When a person does exceptionally well on a specific job in the private sector, the organisation benefits in a variety of ways, both monetarily and in terms of productivity.
Human resources are the most significant factors of production in every organisation, whether public or private, hence it is necessary to incorporate motivating factors into organisations. The human element is regarded as the most crucial and intricate in every organisation, and it is the sole determinant of its success.
As a result, human resources are seen as the driving force behind an organization’s success or failure. The manager’s primary responsibility is to create a productive work environment for individuals under his or her supervision.
The manager should motivate his or her team, both personally and collectively, in order to create and sustain a productive work environment.
Motivation is defined as the process of initiating conscious and purposeful activities. According to Pratt Fairchild [1970], motivation is the power that drives us to finish tasks by satisfying our specific needs and inspiring us. It can also be defined as the process of providing an appropriate incentive for intentional and purposeful activity.
This study will primarily focus on motivation and performance in the private sector, with Infinity System Ltd in Lagos Nigeria serving as a case study.
For the purposes of this study, motivation will be employed as the independent variable and performance as the variable.
1.2 Statement of Problem
Motivation is critical in any organisation to ensure that employees perform to their full potential. Any organisation that lacks proper motivation will not receive the optimum performance from its staff.
Organisations may suffer instability, low income, delays in staff promotions, low productivity, and other challenges. All of these issues arise in organisations when people are not adequately motivated to achieve their maximum performance.
Based on the foregoing, the research will focus on the motivation and performance of Infinity Systems Limited Lagos, Nigeria.
Based on the foregoing, the research will also look into how the reward system affects worker performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.
Based on the foregoing, the research will investigate how job insecurity affects employee performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.
Based on the foregoing, the research will also look into how delayed promotions effect worker performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The primary goal of the study is to investigate the effects of motivation on employee performance, which is likely to lead to organisational success.
Other objectives of the study will be to:
1. Investigate how the reward system influences staff performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.
2. Identify how job insecurity affects employee performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.
3. Investigate the impact of delayed employee promotion on performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.
1.4 Research Questions.
Based on the study’s topics, the following research issues will be examined:
a) How does the reward system effect staff performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd.?
b) How does job uncertainty effect employees’ performance at Infinity System Nigeria Ltd?

1.5 Significance of the Study
This study will thus be justified in that motivational elements will be uncovered, resulting in improved employee performance.
This study will be extremely beneficial to managers and directors, particularly the management of Infinity Systems Ltd, in terms of how to get the most out of their staff who are now experiencing low morale as a result of the ongoing socioeconomic hardship.
Furthermore, the study would be extremely beneficial to academics who wish to apply the method in conducting research on various organisations where motivation and performance are not well managed.
This study will also have a significant impact on policymakers, allowing them to employ the system in areas where motivation and performance are lacking in policy-related areas of any organisation system.
1.6 Scope of Study
This study will focus on workers at Infinity System Ltd in Lagos, Nigeria, but it will also be applicable to other organisations in the country if necessary.
This study will investigate the relationship between motivational factors (e.g., job security, good remuneration, staff training and development, promotion, etc.) and performance variables (e.g., resources used, time required) in order to demonstrate how motivation can improve an employee’s efficiency, effectiveness, and thus performance, resulting in organisational success. Infinity System Ltd will be chosen since it is an information technology company with current industry trends. It has found itself in intense competition, necessitating a high level of performance or risk losing relevance. Without a doubt, it would be a true measure of motivation and performance in Nigeria’s continuously rising economy.
1.7 Operational Definition of Terms
Motivation is derived from the word’motive’, which refers to an individual’s needs, desires, wants, or urges. It is the process of motivating individuals to take action in order to achieve specific goals. In the work goal environment, the psychological elements fueling people’s behaviour can be:
