THE DETERMINANTS OF SHIFTS IN HOME HOLDS COOKING ENERGY CHOICES IN LAGOS METROPOLIS, NIGERIA USING MULTINOMINAL LOGIT MODEL
Figures and abstract
Using a multinomial logit model, the researchers investigated the factors influencing rural energy choices for cooking in Enugu State, Nigeria. In this paper, we focus on the socioeconomic factors that influence household cooking energy preferences in rural Nigeria.
Firewood is still the preferred fuel for the majority of households in the study area; while rational, the choice is not sustainable because it threatens their woodlands and green economy.
According to empirical findings, household total income, women’s level of education, age, occupation, and the presence of internal cooking facilities are important factors influencing household cooking fuel choice. While income is an important factor, the empirical findings suggest that policymakers should consider socioeconomic factors when addressing household energy consumption issues.
